Cancellation Policy: If a participant cancels within 30 days of a workshop, the Kern Family Foundation may invoice the institution for a $150 cancelation fee to cover materials and other unrecoverable costs.

Craig Downing

Craig Downing, Facilitator

Craig is the Associate Dean of Lifelong Learning and Department Head of Engineering Management. In this role, he holds responsibility for all post-baccalaureate educational activities, both credit, and non-credit bearing engagements. The rewards of this position allow for an entrepreneurial mindset to be deployed in an academic environment. Given the vast potential to serve the professional engineering community is energizing. Craig is a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Professional Engineering Manager, and Fellow of the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM).
Kaitlin Mallouk

Kaitlin Mallouk, Coach

Kaitlin is an Assistant Professor in the Experiential Engineering Education at Rowan University. She's focused on multi-disciplinary instruction in the first and second years. Her background includes chemical engineering (BS), biomedical engineering (2 years working in vaccine development), environmental engineering (MS, PhD), and mechanical engineering (5 years as an instructor in an ME department).
Ella Ingram

Ella Ingram, Facilitator

Ella is Associate Dean for Professional Development and Professor of Biology at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. During Dr. Ingram’s career, she has blended work with undergraduate students with work in scholarship of teaching and faculty development. Recent directions include faculty leadership development, retention of female faculty, and professional productivity strategies. Her publications have appeared in CBE Life Science Education, Journal of Research in College Teaching, New Directions in Teaching and Learning, IDEA Paper Series, and Journal of College Science Teaching. She was a founding member of Making Academic Change Happen and continues to create active learning experiences for faculty and academic leadership nationwide. She received the greatest honor of her career, Rose-Hulman’s Honorary Alumni Award, in 2016.
Denver Tang

Denver Tang, Facilitator

Denver is Associate Professor in the Institute of Education at Tsinghua University. He was formerly an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Engineering Education at The Ohio State University. Denver brings an interdisciplinary perspective to the development of engineering students that synthesizes social sciences, engineering, and ethics. He has designed and led workshops to help engineering faculty integrate ethics in technical courses. Denver publishes on ethics and engineering education.
Andrea Welker

Andrea Welker, Coach

Andrea (PhD., PE, ENV SP, F.ASCE) is Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Engineering and a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Villanova University. As Associate Dean she started the Honors program, launched the Grand Challenge Scholars Program, and helped found the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. She is currently part of a multi-state, multi-year effort supported by the William Penn Foundation to ensure plentiful, clean water in the Delaware River Watershed. In addition, she is studying the effect of modern-day stormwater management on streams. Dr. Welker is a past Chair of the Civil Engineering Division of the American Society for Engineering Education. She is currently serving as the liaison for the Civil Engineering Division to ASCE.
Kyle Gipson

Kyle Gipson

Kyle is an Associate Professor at James Madison University in the Department of Engineering. He has taught courses pertaining to topics for first-year engineering, materials science and engineering, engineering design, systems thinking and engineering leadership development. Currently, he holds the following positions within JMU: 1st/2nd Year Engineering Academic Advisor and a Center for Faculty Innovation Teaching Fellow. He has a PhD in Polymer, Fiber Science from Clemson University. His research background is in the synthesis of polymer nanocomposites and engineering education. He was trained within the textile industry, which was part of an eleven-year career that spanned textile manufacturing to product development.
